Laminated Glass Prominent at 2009 North American International Auto Show

Numerous vehicles that were on display at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) tout laminated glass as standard or optional equipment in applications beyond the windshield, reports the Enhanced Protective Glass Automotive Association (EPGAA). Those window positions include driver and passenger side windows, rear windows and roof glass.
New adoptions of laminated glass demonstrate the value that automakers continue to place on the benefits of the product. Since the year 2000, when the technology began to appear on luxury vehicles at NAIAS, laminated glass has been adopted by many additional vehicles including those designed to exhibit quality, yet be affordable to a wide variety of consumers. Notably, over the past three consecutive years at NAIAS, the vehicle named North American Car of the Year has included laminated door glass as standard equipment. read more

NEW DELHI: It is not only cricket that Australia is taking on India but also at the current Auto Expo being held in the capital. Twenty three models have been flown into India from Australia, especially to man an auto stall.
Dressed in sparkling red mini skirts in the cold Delhi winter, they are surely attracting a lot of attention.

While the mantra for the many foreign car companies at the auto Expo seems to be to 'go local', Czech carmaker Skoda wanted to give an international feel to their stall by bringing in Australian models.

Auto Expo: From people’s cars to gods of speed

The biannual Auto Expo held in the country’s capital is an opportunity for the domestic automobile industry to showcase its best products, new technology and emerging trends.

This year, the ninth edition of the Auto Expo, arguably the biggest ever, was a celebration of the emergence of the Indian automotive industry as a global technology and manufacturing hub.
The 9th Auto Expo 2008 is also unique compared to the previous editions, as it has brought together the most diverse range of products and technologies that are the very latest and not a few generations old. The Auto Expo has also always been a platform for launching new cars and some of the most loved and most successful Indian vehicles were first unveiled here.
Here, too, the current Auto Expo will set a record of sorts with the amazing range of cars, bikes, commercial vehicles and other products that were debuted. The cars and bikes that were launched at the Expo this year straddled both ends of the price spectrum, ranging from the affordable scooter to super-premium, super-performance bikes, and from the ultra low-cost, ‘Rs 1-lakh’ car to the super-luxury Rs 1-crore vehicles.

Concept cars bring excitement

Concepts made their presence felt, both in numbers as well as significance, with Indian and global manufacturers unveiling what lies in store for automotive users and enthusiasts. It is not just a crowd pulling activity at the auto shows but they do serve that purpose along with trying to push the brand strengths and direction in an invigorating manner. Car makers strutted their stuff for the future with style and aplomb at the Auto Expo as well - and the popularity of the concepts was more than evident with the crowds that gathered around them.

Suzuki was out in full-concept-force this year, with a whole array of concepts and many others based on current production models like the SX4 and the Zen Estilo. The stunner at its stand was the Suzuki A-Star.

Another delectable concept at the Suzuki show-stand was the Kizashi. It is Suzuki’s vision of the mid-size sedan of the future. ‘Kizashi’, which means ‘prelude’ in Japanese, is actually the company’s way of announcing its new and seriously pursued interest in large cars. The concept marks a large step towards what could be Suzuki’s first independently produced D-segment car - and beautiful enough to make the other Japanese biggies sit up and take notice. Apart from the new 2.0-litre turbo diesel that powers the Kizashi, Suzuki is also contemplating a hybrid version of its big car. Kizashi is expected to come to India at the same time as the rest of the world.
